But a couple of minutes spent recording the status of your car when picking it up can save time later should there be a dispute over a scratch you didn't cause, or excess mileage you didn't travel. During the inspection process, you should complete an inspection report indicating any damage to the vehicle. An example can be seen below and you can download a copy for your own needs. Make sure all existing damage is on the card, even if the rental clerk neglects it by mistake.
